Attempt To Understand

"Empathy does not mean
that we must accept the other’s view.
It simply means that we are willing
to attempt to understand it."

I photographed a golden sunrise this morning, very nice, but soon after the crest, as I was preparing Kolo's insulin and breakfast, I noticed how glorious the risen sun was through the dining room window. I could not resist the shot.

Newly Fallen Snow

"Life is like a field of newly fallen snow.
Where I choose to walk,
every step will show."
~ Denis Waitley

With first light this morning, a surprise: about 1/2 inch of snow. What delight. With this white frosting, the ordinary takes on a new appearance.

Fill the Brain

"Fill the brain with high thoughts,
highest ideals, place them day and
night before you,
and out of that will come Great work."

Belonging There

"Being with you is like walking on a very clear morning--
definitely the sensation of belonging there."

Create a Spark

7:43 AM

"The artist must create a spark
before he can make a fire
and before art is born,
the artist must be ready
to be consumed by the fire
of his own creation."

The Moon

Still the crescent moon, just a whisper at dawn.

"A Poet... has no Identity--
he is continually... filling some other Body--
the Sun, the Moon, the Sea and Men and Women."

I Choose to Live

"Every breath I take becomes deeper,
and I become more confident of myself
without my crutches.
The lies I've filled
my body and soul with
aren't needed anymore.
They're not welcome.
I choose to live, not just exist."
~ James Hetfield

Think Big

"Think big and don't listen to people
who tell you it can't be done.
Life's too short to think small."
~ Tim Ferriss

Market Exchange

"Every modern artist who has chosen to labor with a gift
must sooner or later wonder how he or she is to survive
in a society dominated by market exchange."
~ Lewis Hyde

A Different Part of Us

"Artists speak to a different part of us,
bypassing the cloudy filter of reason
and the fears and prejudices of the habitual mind."
~ Wes Nisker

Little By Little

"All beginnings are somewhat strange;
but we must have patience, and little by little,
we shall find things, which at first were obscure,
becoming clearer."
~ Vincent De Paul
